 Happy New Year
Back to Full Blog

Pssssst! Hey you. Come here. I'm kinda confused about something and I was hoping you might 'splain it to me. You probably already know who I am, but in case you don't, I'm Shadow the Lab. Oh, I see you've heard of me. Probably heard my "humans" bragging about me, especially Leeuna, my "mommy".

Anyways, I'm using her computer again. And like always I'm typing with both paws so I can get this written up before she catches me. She's kinda funny about her computer. Always with the "get down! don't touch that!" which  in my opinion is kinda selfish. I don't act that way when she gets near my toys or my rawhide chews or my food bowl.

But like I was saying, I have something I would like to talk about. It's about this "new year" thing. I heard my humans talking about it the other day and I don't understand it. They were talking about a 2008, whatever that is, and I heard them say we were getting a new year. Well, what I'd like to know is -  Why?  What's wrong with the old one? Why do we need to get a new year when the one we have is perfectly fine. It's always that way. What's up with this throwing away of perfectly good old things and getting new ones, anyway? Like my bed for instance. It was very cozy. I had it chewed up just right. The stuffing was poking out in all the right places, it was real stinky and dirty just the way I like it. Suddenly, out it went and along came a new one. Now it'll take me two months to chew it up real good and get it the way I like it.

But that's really not the point. What I need to know is should I write down a list. A list of "resolutions" ( least that's what my mommy calls it.) I think it's a list of things that we've done that weren't very good, and things that we will do better when we get this new year. If I need to write down this list, it will probably be something like this:

1)  Let's see. For my first one I think I will promise to not wander out of the yard anymore. Actually I don't do that very much anyway since they got this big fence.
2)  I won't sing after dark. Except when I hear a siren. I kinda like to sing along with the tune. It's always in the key of G minor and that's where I usually sing best.
3)  I won't jump on mommy and knock her down anymore when she comes out to play.
4)  I'll try to slow down and wait for Mommy when she is walking with me on my leash. I just wish she would walk a little faster, that's all. Its such a drag when she falls down and I'm on the other end of the chain... Bwahahahaha! Get it? It's such a drag?  Oh I kill me sometimes.
Speaking of killing me, I just remembered that last episode we had, which was a few weeks ago. See here's the thing. Mommy was bringing my food out the door and I decided to show her how high I had learned to jump. I can almost reach the very top of the door now. But when I jumped on the door, a funny thing happened. That great big window thing at the top fell right out of the door and landed on mommy's toe. I knew right away that was gonna leave a mark. (I hate it when that happens) She was all squealing (almost like one of those sirens) and hopping around and yelling for daddy to get the window off her toe and I was afraid she was going to drop my food, but lucky for me she didn't. Daddy put the food in my bowl then they went somewhere in the car. When they came back Mommy had this funny looking boot on her foot and she was hobbling around with sticks under her arms. I don't know what that's all about but I bet those sticks would be fun to play with. I guess my point is that I will try to stop jumping on the door when we get this new year. I don't think mommy was all that impressed.

So that's my list of "I won'ts". I wanted to know what you thought about it 'cause I hear it's important to try to correct things when we find out that they are wrong. (That's what I heard my humans say...least that's what I think they said, but to be honest I was listening for the word "treats" and I might not have heard correctly.)

I wonder if mommy will give me those sticks when she gets done hopping around with them under her arms. I wonder where I can bury them. I'm thinking that underneath her rose bush would be a good place.

Anyway, I hope you all enjoy your new year and your "2008", whatever that is. I'll try to write you again real soon. Right now I gotta run. I hear sticks thumping on the floor so that means Mommy's home. Maybe she brought me some bones...
