 Me and My Shadow

Never say "never",
When Gizzi Died, I swore I would NOT get another dog, but guess what? I Did and here are the pictures.

Hubby just 'happened' to go by the animal shelter here in our town this morning and he came back and told me about this beautiful black Lab they had. Soooooo, I went to see him and of course I fell in love with him immediately.

I pondered on the idea of taking him home and wrestled with my self for an entire nanosecond, and then I told the guy there that I wanted him. I paid the adoption fees and tomorrow I have an appointment to take him to the vet for his shots and to have him neutered.

After I said I would take him, the guy told me that this would have been the dog's last day there. He was scheduled to be euthanized in the morning. So I suppose he was meant to become mine.

And that isn't white on his throat, that is his tounge hanging out...seriously it is. He only has enough Chow in him to make a tiny bit of black on the very tip of his tounge. He has no white on him anywhere.

Judging from his size and appearence, I am guessing he is somewhere around 7-9 months old. I named him Shadow. I hope he doesn't mind. I didn't know what his real name was and he looks like a black shadow...and since he has been home, he has become like my shadow, following each step I make. He is lying here beside me while I am writing this.

Anyway, that's my piece of good news for Tuesday.

 Another "Keeper" Email

Jack took a long look at his speedometer before slowing down: 73 in a 55 zone. Fourth time in as many months. How could a guy get caught so often?

When his car had slowed to 10 miles an hour, Jack pulled over, but only partially. Let the cop worry about the potential traffic hazard. Maybe some other car will tweak his backside with a mirror. The cop was stepping out of his car, the big pad in hand.
Bob? Bob from Church? Jack sunk farther into his trench coat. This was worse than the coming ticket. A cop catching a guy from his own church. A guy who happened to be a little eager to get home after a long day at the office. A guy he was about to play golf with tomorrow.
Jumping out of the car, he approached a man he saw every Sunday, a man he'd never seen in uniform.

"Hi, Bob. Fancy meeting you like this."
"Hello, Jack." No smile.
"Guess you caught me red-handed in a rush to see my wife and kids."
"Yeah, I guess." Bob seemed uncertain. Good.
"I've seen some long days at the office lately. I'm afraid I bent the rules a bit -just this once."
Jack toed at a pebble on the pavement. "Diane said something about roast beef and potatoes tonight. Know what I mean?" "I know what you mean. I also know that you have a reputation in our precinct ." Ouch. This was not going in the right direction. Time to change tactics.
"What'd you clock me at?"
"Seventy. Would you sit back in your car please?"
"Now wait a minute here, Bob. I checked as soon as I saw you. I was barely nudging 65."
"Please, Jack, in the car"
Flustered, Jack hunched himself through the still-open door. Slamming it shut, he stared at the dashboard. He was in no rush to open the window.
The minutes ticked by. Bob scribbled away on the pad.
Why hadn't he asked for a driver's license?
Whatever the reason, it would be a month of Sundays before Jack ever sat near this cop again. A tap on the door jerked his head to the left. There was Bob, a folded paper in hand Jack rolled down the window a mere two inches, just enough room for Bob to pass him the slip.
"Thanks." Jack could not quite keep the sneer out of his voice.
Bob returned to his police car without a word. Jack watched his retreat in the mirror Jack unfolded the sheet of paper. How much was this one going to cost?
Wait a minute. What was this? Some kind of joke?
Certainly not a ticket. Jack began to read:
"Dear Jack, Once upon a time I had a daughter. She was six when killed by a car. You guessed it- a speeding driver. A fine and three months in jail, and the man was free. Free to hug his daughters, all three of them. I only had one, and I'm going to have to wait until Heaven before I can ever hug her again.
A thousand times I've tried to forgive that man. A thousand times I thought I had. Maybe I did, but I need to do it again. Even now. Pray for me. And be careful, Jack, my son is all I have left."
"Bob"
Jack turned around in time to see Bob's car pull away and head down the road. Jack watched until it disappeared. A full 15 minutes later, he too, pulled away and drove slowly home, praying for forgiveness and hugging a surprised wife and kids when he arrived.

Life is precious. Handle with care. This is an important message; please pass it along to your friends. Drive safely and carefully. Remember, cars are not the only things recalled by their maker.
Pass this on, you may save a life. Maybe not, but we'll never know if we don't try.
May today there be peace within you. May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be. "I believe that friends are quiet angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly."

 58 Days until Spring

And I for one can't wait. It is cold and raining today here in our area and I think it may turn to snow and ice by later tonight. I hate winter. We have had good weather here compared to some. I feel so sorry for all the folks in Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, etc, who are getting all that ice and snow. If any of you are from those areas, I wish you sunshine and warmer temps very soon.

I sure hope that old groundhog doesn't see his shadow on Feb 2nd. I'm ready for some serious gardening and yard work. In fact, I'm even looking forward to Spring cleaning.

Here's a Blond Guy Joke I got in my email this morning. I thought it was hilarious. It's about time they started pickin on you guys and not just us dumb blond females. (My hair is red, but I have blond streaks)

An Irishman , a Mexican and a Blonde Guy were doing construction work on scaffolding on the 20th floor of a building. They were eating lunch and the Irishman said, "Corned beef and cabbage! If I get corned beef and cabbage one more time for lunch, I'm going to jump off this building."

The Mexican opened his lunch box and exclaimed, "Burritos again! If I get burritos one more time I'm going to jump off, too."

The blonde opened his lunch and said, " Bologna again! If I get a bologna sandwich one more time, I'm jumping too."

The next day, the Irishman opened his lunch box, saw corned beef and cabbage, and jumped to his death.

The Mexican opened his lunch, saw a burrito, and jumped, too.

The blonde guy opened his lunch, saw the bologna and jumped to his death as well.

At the funeral, the Irishman's wife was weeping. She said, "If I'd known how really tired he was of corned beef and cabbage, I never would have given it to him again!"

The Mexican's wife also wept and said, "I could have given him tacos or enchiladas! I didn't realize he hated burritos so much."

Everyone turned and stared at the blonde's wife. The blonde's wife said, "Don't look at me. The idiot makes his own lunch."

The Reason For My Long Absence

I wanted to let you all know that my little Mama went home to be with Jesus last week. I would like to request your prayers for me and my family at this time.  After her funeral, it seems that it only gets harder to bear. There is nothing more to do for her and life seems so empty without her sweet smiling face.  She left behind a lot of love and good memories for her family and I know that we will see her again someday, but right now I miss her so much.

She lived a long full life. She would have celebrated her 94th birthday if she had lived until March 12th.  She was loved by all who knew her and she will be missed.

Love and hugs
